Obagi Blue Peel®

Accelerate Transformation
If you're looking to accelerate Transformation and interested in a chemical peel procedure, the Obagi Blue Peel® may be the right procedure for you. This is the deeper and more effective peel performed in the clinic by our physician or nurse practitioner depending on the depth. It is an excellent peel for correcting pigmentation, tightening skin, reducing fine lines and wrinkles, shrinking pores, and smoothing scars. This peel is safer than conventional peels, as the Blue Base controls the penetration and depth of the acid. The blue dye acts as a guide to ensure the even application of the peel.

The Oabgi Blue Peel® performed at the Obagi Skin Health Institute, San Gabriel requires only 7-days of down-time. This is definitely a procedure that requires experience and talent to achieve optimal results. Only practitioners that have been personally trained by Dr. Obagi, perform this peel at our clinic.

Blue Peel compared to Conventional TCA Peels

The Obagi Blue Peel® can be performed to the same depths, if not deeper, as conventional TCA peels. The Blue Base, dilutes the concentration of TCA to prevent the "crazy horse" effect that can occur where acid penetrates too quickly and is out of control. It is also a safer peel, as there are very clear end points to the depth performed, allowing all skin types regardless of skin tone or color to have a peel safely performed. Darker skin types can NOT safely have plain TCA peels.

The Blue Base allows for the even application of the peel and allows the TCA to self neutralize. The dye leaves skin with a Blueish tint for approx., 24 hours, but regardless of the dye, with a deeper peel you should stay in-doors for the first 5 days, as in any significant procedure. The base slows down the penetration of TCA and is NOT just a dye. A lighter Obagi Blue Peel® (performed less deep) will not result in such an extensive period of the tint. Most of it will be washed off immediately after the peel.

The Obagi Blue Peel® can be performed as light as the Basal Layer of the Epidermis (5th layer of the top of skin) or as deep as the Immediate Reticular Dermis. This is contingent on the experience and skin of the physician performing the peel AND the patient's skin type and condition.

As someone commented, the Obagi Blue Peel® can NOT be performed at home. Only a licensed physician trained on performing the peel should perform it. Like any procedure such as, Botox®, by Allergan, there are some unqualified people that get their hands on it. A consumer should perform their due diligence in choosing the correct doctor.

The great thing about the Obagi Blue Peel®, is if it is CORRECTLY performed patients with a broad spectrum of skin types such as, Hispanic or Asian skin types can safely have the peel.
